CBD
CBD 101
CBD is one of the biggest trends recently and it’s all over the media and now sold EVERYWHERE.
But, just like anything else, do your research, know your source and be in tune with how you react to what you put in YOUR body. Would you buy your supplements from the gas station or hair salon? No, you would buy them from a qualified individual who sells good, quality products.
CBD affects everyone differently; it may take some time to figure out just the right dosage for you.
It DOES work, it is POWERFUL, but you should buy it from someone knowledgeable and get it from a good reputable, organic source, again this is going inside YOUR body. Typically that means NOT online and NOT from a MLM. Buy your products from a qualified, educated medical practitioner who knows how to dose and sells good quality organic products.
Here are some things you need to know about CBD.
What is CBD?
CBD is the non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis makes 2 species – one is marijuana and the other is hemp. CBD comes from hemp. It does not get you “high,” can never get you “high,” it is non addicting and over time you should need less. It is most popularly known for treating seizures and fighting cancer.
Do you know what the endocannabinoid system is?
Well, this is how the CBD interacts with your body. The endocannabinoid system is a body system everyone with a vertebrae has in their body. This system interacts with EVERY other system, like: musculoskeleteal, nervous, digestive system etc. We have 2 known cannabinoid receptors – CB1 and CBD2. CB1 consists of the brain and brain stem. CB2 follows the vagus nerve, is on all our major organs, bones, skin cells and oversees the immune system. CBD wakes up these receptors, makes them work better and in turn YOU feel better.
What does the endocannabinoid system and traditional Chinese medicine have in common?
Acupuncture also regulates the endocannabinoid system, the goal of both is to achieve homeostasis. Homeostasis refers to the mechanism of the body to have a stable internal environment. Many of the herbs you will receive from our clinic use the endocannabinoid system to affect change. CBD is like acupuncture in a bottle (if you get full spectrum hemp, which is the only thing Natural Point sells).
Is it legal? Will it come up in a drug test?
Yes, hemp is legal. In order for it to be classified legal, it needs to contain <.3%THC.
We cannot guarantee it will not come in a drug test, since it affects everyone differently it is possible but unlikely.
Which is the best route for me to take? Oral, topical, edible?
It depends. Oral will help the most amount of ailments. Topical is usually ONLY for localized pain. Edible is ONLY if you are always on the go and dislike the taste of the oil. Oral is usually the best route, you just have to keep in mind results may not be immediate and can take up to a week to feel the full effects. The dosage takes some trial and error, depending on weight, stress and your internal systems. Our Acupuncturist will walk you through dosing. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
